Spring Cleaning

Whether you are fit as a fiddle or a regular couch potato, detoxing once in a while is something we can all benefit from, especially during the change of seasons according to Traditional Chinese Medicine.  There are a lot of different ways to detox and lots of different products out there that support detoxing.  Something that has always interested me was the idea of doing a juice cleanse, so I decided to try the 5-day Energize Cleanse from Total Cleanse!

The basic idea behind doing a juice cleanse is that for 1, 3, 5 or 7 days you consume nothing but fresh vegetable and fruit juices chock-a-block full of micronutrients.  Hold on, before you write off the idea of forgoing solid foods for a brief period, read on.  By drinking only these juices you are giving your digestive system a bit of a break, and the large amount of energy that your body usually invests into digesting is actually dispersed elsewhere… like your overall energy level!  It also gives your body a break from all the bad stuff we are usually eating... processed, artificial colours and flavours, refined sugars, and the list goes on!  Some of the other awesome benefits touted include:

SO the challenge was on!  I didn’t want to do this alone so I recruited the likes of the AAAD team; I would do a 5 day, Kate a 3 day, Jamie and Christine a 1 day cleanse.  I was a little intimidated about the idea of going for 5 full days with only juice but I had also never done anything like this so I was pretty excited to see what kind of results I would get especially after reading all the amazing testimonials from other Total Cleanse customers.  We put in our order and I eagerly awaited the late night delivery of my juice.  The next morning the games began… the following is a brief journal I kept throughout the week:

Day 1:  My first juice “green energy” was pretty tasty, I was surprised with the ingredients of cucumber, celery, kale, lettuces, parsley, lemon, apple, and romaine lettuce I had been a bit scared.  I decided that I would try to do the cleanse and still work out.  So I did a hot yoga class in the morning and I was doing well overall on the hunger scale until just after 12 when I started getting fairly hungry, but after the next juice I was fine again!  I fell in love with the “very berry” juice which  has strawberry, pineapple, blueberry, apple, lemon; it was so fresh and deliciousInterestingly, I had no headaches or tiredness, but I did have a lot of solid food craving and even when I got home at the end of the night I found I just wanted to snack snack snack and it took a lot of will power to resist the urge but I was glad I did because the cashew milk was WELL worth the wait!  With a little honey and vanilla it was absolutely delicious and really filled me up.
Day 2:  I thought I would wake up hungry but I wasn’t at all.  Overall, this was probably the hardest day. I was a bit tired and hungry mid-noon but then by the evening I was fine again.  I was also drinking copious amounts of water and was the most hydrated I had ever been, which felt great.
Day 3, 4 and 5:   I went to another hot yoga class on Wednesday (day 3) and was amazed at how light and limber I felt.  I was also feeling a LOT more energized which was strange because I consider myself to be a fairly energetic person in general.  By the 4th day I could tell my tummy felt flatter and my skin was looking super clear.  On day 5 I will admit that I was looking forward to having some food in the near future but I was also feeling pretty darn good.  
Over all, I’m really happy I did the cleanse and lasted the full 5 days.  The Total Cleanse juices were really tasty and still gave me around 1200 cals/day which were just enough to keep me from getting super hungry or hypoglycemic.  I am going to try and incorporate fresh juice in my diet more and can definitely see myself doing a juice cleanse once a year. The whole process is very hassle free and Total Cleanse makes getting the fresh juices very accessible by delivering them directly to your door. I highly recommend everyone do some spring cleaning and give Total Cleanse a try, you'll be very happy you did!

sounds good...i'm considering the cleanse. did you experience headaches at all? did you lose any weight? and would you do it again?

Hi there!

I did have a minor headache on the 2nd day but that may have been caused by extraneous factors (aka PMS). I did end up loosing about 2 pounds, however I wouldn’t recommend doing a cleanse like this for the sole purpose of loosing weight, as there are more sustainable ways of doing so. Also I would definitely do it again, it made me feel pretty amazing overall!

This may sound odd, but I was curious as to how your body reacted to the juicing, bathroom wise.
I'm very interest in juicing, but I've heard some pretty horrible stories.
