DIY: Hair Mask

I made a pledge about a year ago to not use any skin or hair products that are tested on animals or contain nasty chemicals (check out Nadia's post on Skin Care), which can make finding hair care products a bit difficult. However, your kitchen holds the key to keeping your hair naturally lush and healthy. Everyday we are exposed to countless environmental pollutants and chemicals, so ditch the chemicals and expensive treatments and treat your hair to some real care!

DIY Hair Mask Ingredients

  • 1/2 ripe avocado
  • 1 tablespoon coconut oil (melted)
  • 1 tablespoon EVOO (Extra Virgin Olive Oil)
  • 1 egg
  • 2 garlic cloves, crushed

Instructions:

  1. Mash the avocado completely
  2. Melt the coconut oil in a separate bowl (ideally on the stove)
  3. Whisk the coconut oil, olive oil, egg and garlic into the avocado mash
  4. Apply the mask starting from the roots to the ends of the hair and massage into your scalp and hair
  5. Leave on for at least 30 minutes or put on a hair cap and leave on over night then wash your hair

You can use this hair mask once or twice a week.

Best in health,
